It was really fun - we didn't tell the kids it was coming. The truck pulled up in front of our house, and they came running in - " there's a HUGE truck outside that says playground on it!"........... "Mom.......did you get us a swingset?" ......lots of hugs :) (the truck was not that HUGE - I laughed) I'll get more pictures of the kids enjoying it - they had a blast on Saturday!

Swingset!!!
Ever since we moved back here in 2000, we've wanted to get a swingset for the kids. When we were finally going to get one, we were talking about building the house, so Lafe didn't want to move it. So, now, we finally got one!!! Here is Lafe trying it out......

There is a slide, too, but the guy had to run and get a part to put it on. Talin was with me when they finished, so he came back and in tears said - "they forgot to put on my slide!". He's happy now - it's on.
Cute boy!
Erin took this picture one day while I was gone - he's so cute!
The other day it was "thinking" about raining - it sprinkled just barely and Talin came running in wanting an umbrella or raincoat, so Laura let him wear her's. I just thought he was so cute. This was Erin's raincoat that we bought for her on clearance for about $6 when she was 4!

What you don't see...
My sister-in-law sent this to me and I love it! I TOTALLY relate!!!
What you don't see

What you don't see, when we all march into church on Sunday morning, is the chaos of the morning that happened just 10 minutes earlier.
What you don't see, when you look at my four little boys in their suits, is that the 7-year-old is wearing Dad's socks because we couldn't find his. And they go all the way up to his knees.
What you don't see, when I pull out the lovely quiet book I made a few years back, is that below it, in my church bag, are five baggies of smashed raisins because I haven't cleaned out the bag for months.
When you enter my house, with its shining entryway, you don't see the three loads of laundry dumped on my bed. Or the dirty pots I stashed in the oven. And you will never see the interior of my minivan, not until I find the time to vacuum it out.
When you admire the hand-sewn pajamas I made for all the kids, we don't talk about the three nights I got no sleep to make those.
If you look on my blog, you will see pictures of homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. You won't see my confession to popping in a frozen pizza THREE times last week for dinner.Or the night we ate Cheerios for dinner, dry, because we were out of milk. There is a zoom on my camera for a reason. There is a delete button for a reason.
I don't think we're all playing a part. We naturally want to put our best selves forward, so that is what other people see. They don't see what's going on behind the scenes. I like to think that good parenting is like a duck on the water. What you see is the gentle, almost effortless gliding, not the furious paddling that happens underneath.
I keep a mental list of about ten people I want to stalk by camera, from morning to night, to see how they do it all. Are they up at 4 a.m.? Can they survive on three hours of sleep? Do they have a housekeeper? Because I drop balls just as fast as I can grab them. My intentions are of pure gold, but they come out as tinkling brass, at best.
I started a blog last fall. I dragged my feet into it for many reasons. One of the main reasons I hesitated was I didn't want to be another contributor to the cyberspace guiltosphere out there. Especially where mothers are concerned, do we need one more reason to feel guilty?Because from the looks of things, other families are happier, their houses are cleaner, their marriages are better, their clothes are more stylish and their craftiness is even more crafty. Their lives are perfectly lovely, while my kids are running around screaming in their diapers.
My worst fears were confirmed last week when I got an e-mail from a friend who asked, "How do you do it all? Your column, your blog, all the things you do with your children? You're amazing!"I looked around at my house, at the six bins of winter clothes waiting to be transported to the garage, at the sewing projects stacked against the wall, at the state of the toothpaste crusted to the sink ... I let things go, a lot of things.
A spanking-clean house is not a high priority for me. I'm a big believer in mud and its importance in a child's life. The time I take to write is time away from scrubbing that bathroom sink. I would rather read with my kids than shop at the mall, so I am certainly not up-to-date on the latest styles. I've been listening to the same music for 20 years because I can't seem to keep up with the latest music scene. And I require a lot of sleep.
We all have priorities. For some, it is keeping a spotless house, and they are good at it. For others, it is writing, or exercising, or serving others. And yes, there are some who seem to do it all, the Benjamin Franklins of the world. I tell myself I don't have to be them. And also, Benjamin Franklin was not much of a family man. Even he let things go.
What we don't see, when we look at each other on Sunday, or on blogs, or in our shiny kitchens, is that we all have different talents and unique situations. I tell my kids all the time: Life is not a race. The only person you are competing against is yourself.
What we forget to see, when admiring others, is our own personal finish line.

New Kittens!
O.k., if you read our last post, you're thinking ---- WHAT??? Let me explain........For Jamie's birthday a few weeks ago we gave her a coupon for a female kitten because we had been looking for 2 months and hadn't been able to find one! Well, it just so happens that on the morning that our cat passed away, we find an add for these kittens. They were clear on the other side of Phoenix - 45 minutes - but, we were so tired of waiting to find one. She wanted a calico because that's what she had before, but we thought this "tortoise shell" kitten was really cool and unique! So, we made the drive. Jamie fell in love with the female. Introducing........Zoe.....
For Sunday dinner they joined us under the table - it was so cute! They slept there the whole time!
Zoe is super playful and brave. Sammy hissed at us the whole first day. Niether of them liked the idea of dogs around. But, yesterday they warmed up a lot and they've even put the dogs in their place already.
And,....... they also had some tabby males........o.k., I got one, too. :) This is Sammy.......
Tiger
This is Tiger. About 3 weeks ago we noticed he was skinny - more than just shedding off winter hair skinny. So, I bought some canned food to bulk him up, but he wouldn't eat nearly what he normally would. So, we were concerned. I took him in and it was serious. It wasn't Leukemia, but we didn't test any further because we knew it wouldn't change the outcome. They think it was either kidney or liver failure, and we could do nothing for him. We decided to just let him be because they said he really wasn't suffering, just felt really tired and "blaw". Sadly, we had to lock him outside because he couldn't make it out to go potty, or even to a litter box right next to him. By last Friday, I could tell he was a lot worse and sometime during the night on Friday he passed away. Our story with Tiger is kind-of funny. Shortly after Kelcie was born, our cat Lacy had kittens. He was one of these kittens. Well, they came time to sell right when we were moving into our first house, so I put them in the newspaper and all of them sold but him. I couldn't afford to put another ad in the newspaper, so we moved him with us thinking I'd advertise again in a couple weeks ( half hoping he'd get lost in the process :) ). Well, we never advertised again........and hence, he became our third cat. He knew he wasn't welcome because I wouldn't let him in with the other cats, but he eventually was neutered and therefore more trusted and became part of our family. We were often upset at him, though, because he loved to chew on cords - he ruined my iron, a brand-new lamp, Erin's brand-new Eye-clops, Erin's sewing machine, and caused havoc on the washing machine until we finally figured it out, (Sour Apple for dogs works well)and more! He moved with us three times and is the only cat that made it to this house. We did love him and have really enjoyed him this last year in this house. We were all sad to see him go and it was really hard the last day to see him SO sick, so I was glad he finally went. We love you, Tiger!
Random, again.
Talin wanted a bath in my tub the other day. I put bubbles in and turned on the air-jets and walked out for a minute. When I returned he was wimpering and very concerned..... and I found this:
It had even gone down a little by the time we got the picture - I was laughing so hard!
Lafe taught Jamie how to weed-eat the other day, and I think it's GREAT!!!!! I love it when they help out around the house!

Potty funnies
I know - the title doesn't really make you want to read further, but we had to write these down somewhere!
#1:
Setting: Old Navy, just gone to the bathroom 30 seconds ago.....
Talin: Mom, I think I need to go potty again
Me: Are you sure? - you just went.
Talin: But Mom - the poopies are saying "what about me?"
Me: (laughing out loud) o.k., we better go then.
#2:
Setting: Kitchen Table
Talin: Mom, I think I'm going to pee on your chair
Me: Um, No. Let's run!
#3:
Setting: Lunch
Me: Did you eat all you lunch?
Talin: No.
Me: You need to finish
Talin: But, I can't eat any more or it will make the poopies go in my underwear
#4:
Setting: all the time
Talin: It's not working!
#5:
Setting: 10 years ago with Ethan, just went to the bathroom (pooped for the first time)
Ethan: (very surprised) MOM - I made mud!!!

My "Best Doc"
My wonderful hubby was listed as a "Best Doctor" in the Phoenix magazine!!! They are voted on by their piers (sp?) and Lafe was one of the top!!! We actually had no idea until one of our high school friends sent him a message on facebook - by the second message we finally went a bought one to find out. I think it's funny because we can't go ANYWHERE without running into one of his patients - it's funny! In fact, when we were at Zions a few weeks ago - 9 hours away from home - we pull into this little side-of-the-road rock shop and as we're leaving, one of his patients pulls in next to us! We love it, though - it's just really funny. Poetry and Essays
Our school has four campuses, so each year they have grade-level competitions between all of the schools for poetry and essays. The kids have been entered before, but we've never won - Erin got a lot of Honorable Mentions. This year we had TWO winners!!! It was very exciting!!! Erin won 2nd Place for her poem, and Jamie won 1st Place for her Essay!!!!! The school does a nice dinner/reception for them and then presents them with a book of all the winners and a certificate - 1st place gets a medal. The first place also gets to read their writing to the group - so fun to hear the differences and the talent!

Happy Easter!!!!!
We sang this in Choir last week and I just thought it was sooooo beautiful and so well expressed - I've wanted to put it on my blog since we started singing it. It's perfect for Easter and just..........wonderful.
Behold the wounds in Jesus’ Hands,
The marks upon His side.
Then ponder whom He meant to save
When on the cross He died.
We cannot see the love of God
Which saves us from the Fall,
Yet know that Christ from wood and nails
Built mansions for us all.
Behold the outstreched hands of Christ,
Our Lord, who came to save,
Whose love and grace redeem our souls
And lift us from the grave.
Though bruised and battered as we stray,
His guiding hands caress.
He washes and annoints with oil;
Then in His arms we rest.
Behold the wounds in Jesus’ hands.
Look to your Lord and live.
He yearns to bless you with
His loveAnd all your sins forgive.
Oh, empty is the heart of man
When it is filled with sin.
Come, open wide your broken heart
And let your Savior in!
Behold His wounded hands and feet!
Come touch, and see, and feel
The wounds and marks that you may know
His love for you is real.
Then as you fall to worship Him
And wash His feet in tears,
Your Savior takes you in his arms
And quiets all your fears.
Behold the wounds in Jesus’ Hands,
The marks upon His side.
Then ponder whom He meant to save
When on the cross He died.
We cannot see the love of God

Happy Easter!!!
The Easter Bunny visited our house! We always try to do some clothing and something "church" for Easter - and candy, of course.
Erin got a new scripture bag
Easter Eggs
First of all, here's our cute little Easter Bunny :) Lately, we've been getting Scamper out of his little cage and letting him enjoy the grass in an excercise pen - he loves it and we enjoy being able to interact with him more!
On to Easter Eggs!!! We love coloring eggs!!! Every year I get the 5 dozen from Sam's Club so they can each color LOTS - it's so fun and they were VERY creative this year! Here's Erin's blue one that she made light to dark - it's really cool in person.
Jamie's Birthday!!!
Jamie turned 11!!!!!!! It's amazing how fast my kids are growing up!!! She was so lucky because her birthday was on Good Friday, so she didn't have any school! So, she had a slumber late-night that night and it was so fun - great group of girls!!! We gave her a watch, a hair straitener, 2 books, and a coupon for a kitten - we cannot find any kittens! (have you ever had that problem - we've never seen a shortage on kittens before!) I think she had a fun day, and we are so glad to have her happy spirit in our family!
